The power of music is a tool used to engage, motivate and excite children whilst developing musical and transferable skills. Our curriculum is organised giving each year group a specific instrument focus. Our children will receive a musical experience, where learning about music will have a holistic approach with listening, appraising, performing, composing, improvising, singing and creating being inter-related and not taught separately.
To meet the aims above we deliver our music curriculum through the expertise available and provided by ‘The Music Works For Schools’. They provide specialist instrumental and ensemble for whole class and small groups. Musical repertoire has been chosen to make learning both fun and engaging and Potential to integrate performing, composing,
In addition, we may utilise the expertise of staff at our link Secondary School ‘Dowdales Secondary School’ in Dalton. Working closely to give our children a flavour of the different sessions available. For example, previously the Dowdales link provided Y5 and Y6 the opportunity to participate in a block of 4 weeks ‘Samba’ drumming; ending with a performance to parents. The confidence and expertise of our own members of staff contribute to a popular ‘Singing Club’.
